postheadericon Welcoming the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal

Message from the Bishop

Throughout the United States a new translation of the Mass will take effect on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011. After several years of work on a revised English translation, the result is a text that represents a return to the more formal sacred language of the Church.

The new text is faithful to the original Latin and the tradition of the Church; it is prayerful, dignified and accurate in its theology. It is more stately and "elegant", less familiar and conversational.

Publishers have indicated that the first editions of the new Roman Missal will be available in October. In the mean time you may obtain study texts of the translations from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' website:www.usccb.org/romanmissal.

Over the next several months the entire Church in the United States will be prepared to receive this new translation. It will be an excellent opportunity to enrich our understanding of the Mass, its meaning and importance in our lives. I encourage each of you to begin your preparation for receiving the new Roman Missal, to study the new texts, and prayerfully reflect on their meaning. As we do this, we will have an opportunity to renew our celebration of the Holy Eucharist, to strengthen our unity as the Body of Christ here on earth, and to deepen our prayer life.

Bishop David Fellhauer.

December 4, 2011

Hello Everyone, I spend a lot of time sitting in the office and looking out the window. There are so many wonderful things that I can see: the beauty of the morning sun, birds flying, people coming and going from the rectory, the wind blowing the leaves on the trees. Sometimes there is a lot of activity going on just on the other side of the window, and sometimes there is nothing. But I've learned that if I sit and look long enough, something will happen. I don't know how much time I spend there because I can't tell time, but it doesn't matter, the waiting itself is a gift. I'm not really waiting for anything to happen (except to be fed or to get a treat) so anytime something happens outside the window I can be surprised, I can be happy that people are there, I can be happy at how beautiful it is. And once something happens, then I can wait for the next wonderful thing that happens outside the window. While you are waiting this Advent, let yourself be surprised, look for the delightful things that are happening right in front of you. After all, those might be the greatest gifts you'll receive. Have a great week. Miss Betty the Beagle.
